Adoption Opportunities
From time to time, Scotties become available for adoption through the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club (RMSTC). All the Scotties available will have received a complete health examination from a licensed veterinarian, their vaccinations will be current, they will have been spayed or neutered, their temperament and personality evaluated and any treatable medical or health issues, as determined by RMSTC Rescue, will have been addressed.
Should you have an interest in adopting a Scottie, please complete the Contact Us inquiry form located elsewhere on this website providing details regarding your interest and contact information, particularly a telephone number, at which you may be reached.
Basic adoption requirements:
-- All placements must be made within 75 miles of Denver, CO. The RMSTC does not utilize commercial carriers of any kind to transport adoptable Scotties to their new homes.
-- All applicants must complete the RMSTC Adoption Application as an initial step in the adoption process.
-- A preliminary home-site visit as well as an initial “meet and greet” visit are required if there are existing companion animals already in the home.
-- A donation sufficient to cover the veterinary and care costs associated with preparing the Scottie to join its new home is required.
Our goal is to place each dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog. We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs.
Thank you for your interest in providing a needy Scottie its new, forever home. Should you have interest in adopting a Scottie and want to take the next step by learning more about the requirements involved, please complete the Contact Us inquiry form mentioned previously. Someone will respond to your inquiry within 1-2 days.
Happy Tails
Below, you will find some examples of Scotties that have found their way into the RMSTC Rescue Program and HAVE BEEN PLACED in their Forever Homes. Their stories are just a few examples of the work of RMSTC Scottie Rescue.
MacGregor
7-year-old MacGregor came into the Rescue Program when he was picked up as a stray from a local shelter, which had him listed as a white, West Highland Terrier Mix. Someone had shaved off his beard, and left the rest of him wild, wooly, and dirty. He was a mess, but his wonderful, friendly personality shone through all the outer wrappings, and we knew in an instant, there was a handsome Wheaten Scottie Boy inside who needed our help. After a bath, clean-up, and grooming, he felt much better, and showed himself to be very friendly with adults, children, and other dogs. The search began for the perfect home, and soon he landed in Scottie Paradise ... for sure!
A Scottie knowledgeable lady who has been previously owned by three Rescue Scotties, came to visit MacGregor with her present Scottie, (another verrrrry friendly older Scottie Fellow), and the two Scottie boys took an immediate liking for each other. Sometimes it happens that way, where it seems as if the Scotties were just meant to be together. So it was with Inky and MacGregor. They checked each other out, and went off on a walk with Mom as if they’d been together all their lives!
Mom reports all is going extremely well, and this is one very happy Scottie Clan for sure!
Princess
One-year-old Princess came to the Rescue Program from a family that could not give her the time, attention, training, or veterinary care she needed to thrive. They had purchased her as a puppy, but did not understand the nature and needs of the Scottish Terrier breed. Upon our notification that the little Scottie lass needed help, we realized that the family did not speak English. We were able to utilize the help of a fellow RMSTC club member who spoke Spanish. Along with their generous help and unselfish efforts, we were then able to effectively communicate with the family. Consequently, they at last decided the best thing for Princess was to bring her into the Rescue Program.
Thus began the rescue of Princess, and her foster parents stepped up to the plate. They helped her on her way to finding her new, Scottie-knowledgeable home and gave her the dignity and love she truly deserved.
This Spanish-speaking Scottie Girl landed in a marvelous home that also is verrrry Scottie knowledgeable. She now has a brand new family with two canine brothers, two adoring 2-legged sisters, and a mom and dad who totally love her spunky spirit. They are continuing to provide the good life and love Princess received while in her foster home.
Muchas gracias, dear Scottie Angels, for keeping watch over this sweet Scottie Girl, and the kind, caring people who helped her find her forever home!
